We cut out failed mortar joints and repoint by hand with a mix matched to the original for color, texture, and strength.
Mortar joints do not last as long as the brick and stone around them. As they crack, wash out, or turn to sand, water gets into the wall and the damage spreads. We grind out the failed mortar and repoint the joints, which stops the water and puts the strength back into the wall.
The mix matters as much as the work. Older walls were laid in soft, breathable lime mortar, and a hard Portland mix packed into those joints can spall the brick around them. We match the mortar to what the wall was built with for color, texture, and hardness, so the repointed section reads as part of the original and holds up the way it should.
